Island of Gokceada or Imroz numele on its Greek name, which translates as windy island. It is the biggest of the Turkish islands about 30/15 km, situated in Aegean Sea right on the exit of the Dardanele straight The wind blows from Nord Est. It is called Meltemi and it blows all over the Aegean Islands. Gokceada wind is accelerated by thermal winds and venture effect. In the summer it is constantly between 20 - 24 knots in the mornings, then it drops to 6-12 knots in the afternoons. Atmospherical fronts bring 28-35 knots winds or stronger. South or west winds are very rare. There are 2 main spots: - flat water (wind off shore)- mirror flat water, perfect to progress with your freestyle, race skills in the morning, in the afternoon its good for the beginners as well as the wind speed drops - wave spot 1-2 meters (wind on shore, side on shore). Between the 2 golfs there is a lagoon which sometimes in the summer dries out. |
